Dreams, Life, Happiness - 2012

Aoi Miyazaki
Okay, after procrastination the whole week and after watching lots of Sailor Moon openings and transformations, I think I'm finally ready to write a blog-post I wanted to write the last days...

Almost 2012! Time is flying so fast, doesn't it? And a lot of people start to think about their resolutions and what they want next year. And I'm sure some of you want to exercise, eat healthier, do this and that. Me too!

But after writing down some of my resolutions I realised that there is more than just to do more sport, stop biting fingernails and drinking more water.

I realised that we should take care of ourselves. Not only from the outside, but also from the inside. To stop worrying, reduce stress, establishing a harmonious balance in our daily life.
And most importantly - live in day-tight compartments.

Life is slipping away with incredible speed, isn't it? We are so stressed that we think we have not enough time. We have just 24h hours a day and we have to make most of that time. It is true, but we shouldn't forget that too much is too much.

You can compare that with an hourglass. There are thousands of grains of sand on the top and they all pass slowly and evenly through the narrow neck in the middle. And without breaking the hourglass, there's nothing that can be done on our part to allow even just one more grain of sand to pass through its neck.

So think about yourself. If you try to get too much stuff done in just one day and don't let them pass slowly through the day, one at a time, you can easily break yourself. Not only physically, but also mentally.

If you think about it, life is short but you want to make the most of it. Enjoy your life and be happy. But can you, if you just worry about the past or the future? That you don't have enough time to do this and that?

"Life, we learn too late, is in the living, in the tissue of every day and hour."
~Stephen Leacock

I have to admit, I'm really a stressful person even if people tell me "oh you are always so easy-going." Yeah, I am, but sometimes I just so stressed and afraid of everything that I just panic.

But this time I really want to work on myself. I don't want to be afraid of the future, of changes, see the best in everything and be more positive. I want to live in day-tight compartments until bedtime and just don't worry and be happy!

"Those who do not know how to fight worry die young."
~Alexis Carell

There is so much to say but I don't want to make this post too long, so I keep it for the next one. I hope there is someone out there who agrees with me and want to work on the inner self!

Therefore I hope everyone has an awesome start in 2012!

And don't forget to Smile!!

Have a wonderful year full of happiness and everything you wish!

~ Closed ~ Contest Time!

Hey everybody! I'm SO sorry I didn't update my blog for a while but I just had too much stuff going on. But I finally decided to do a special giveaway - contest! And it is really easy to participate in!

As you may know I started offering hand painted necklaces in my shop a while ago and I thought about custom orders! Wouldn't it be great, if everyone had his own special necklace that no one else has?
And for this reason I decided to do a special contest for you to introduce you to my new custom service in my shop!

So I want to know, if you got to have your own custom designed locket, what would you like?

What:
The winner will get his own special locket for free
I will use watercolours to create the painting and seal it with a clear coat of glossy resin.
These lockets are about 2,2 - 3,2 cm/ 0,9" - 1,1". So actually really small but elegant and cute!

How:
It is really easy!
You can leave a comment on this entry or send me an e-mail (makoccinos[at]gmail.com) and tell me which setting you prefer (#1 or  #2) and what motif you would like to have on your own locket and why! Maybe there is a nice story behind it?

And feel free to add a link to a reference picture if you have a specific idea in mind.

This contest is open worldwide! Just don't forget to include your e-mail address!

This contest ends Wednesday, November 16, 2011 9pm CET

Thursday, November 18th, my boyfriend and I will choose the winner with the best idea and announce it here on Saturday, November 19th!

Good luck and thank you for your interest!

My dream came true! I was on the frontpage! It was so shocking for me because I didn't know what happened. My stats were going crazy and no one told me why! After stalking my shop I found out the treasury I was in was on the FP.
Thanks for creating such a nice treasury!

I twittered days ago that I want to run a giveaway when 100 people like my shop. And now there are already 115 people! So amazing!
That means planning! Stay tuned!!

Sorry for such a small update but I'm just back from my trip and I'm so tired!
Good night!

Autumn is Coming..

I hope everyone had a great summer! Summer is almost over and how fast did the time fly by? Spring was only recently. It didn't feel like summer to me at all because it was very rainy and gloomy  most of the time but of course we had nice days too!
But my favourite season of the year is autumn! You can wear nice cozy things, drink hot tea, relax and it is not freezing cold! And since I joined some treasury teams I wanted to share some new treasuries I created with you!
I hope you enjoy them!
And thanks Windowfog for sharing this cool tool with me!

Shop Update - Hand Painted Miniature Violin

"Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens. If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. They get a beautiful heart.”
~Shinichi Suzuki

When I was in school I used to play the violin since it was a big dream of mine when I was little. Since the music school I attended used Shinichi Suzuki's methods I got the chance to learn something about him and his techniques.

As probably not everyone knows Shinichi Suziuki was the inventor of the international Suzuki method of music education. He believed that music and talent education should start from an early age and in a good environment. For me it is really crazy to see little children playing the violin that couldn't barely hold the violin! But it is amazing how great they became.

I really enjoyed playing the violin the first years, but somehow I was not very motivated to play it any more.. So I stopped after 7 years. Maybe because I got lazy and didn't practice enough? Because my interests developed in another directions? I don't know. Still the violin is a beautiful instrument and I really admire people who had the discipline not giving up on practising this instrument and now are able to play beautiful pieces breathtakingly.

This locket was inspired by music and the idea to create something new and timeless. It was really difficult to create it because it is REALLY small! (And who thought symmetrical things are that hard to paint...) But I really wanted to create this necklace.

Since there must be musicians out there I hope some of you (and not only) will like this necklace!
You can always find more here in my shop!

Featured Artist: amorfia

Our today's featured artist is amorfia!

Tell us a bit about yourself:

What is your background?
My name is Andreja and I live in Croatia,  a small country rich with beautiful natural treasures like Plitvice lakes, Kornati islands, Brijuni islands etc.
I work as a business secretary and spend my free time making jewelry which has been my hobby for past seven years.

What hobbies or interests do you have?
Besides jewelry making, I spend a lot of time on reading and photography. My favorite motives are details from nature, landscapes, waterscapes, animals and portraits.

Is there a specific design style that you really like?
I am highly inspired with nature,  fantasy and romantic motives. It seems to me that , since the majority of my audience are women, this is very well accepted style among most of them. I try not to over decorate the jewelry I make, but to make a balance both in delicate and  more "heavy" pieces.

What drives you?
I was creative since the early age. I used to write poetry, paint, but I found greatest satisfaction and fulfillment in jewelry making. I see a lot of beauty in the world around me and this is my way of expressing my view of that beauty.

What are you passionate about?
I'm a really passionate reader. When I get a hold of a book I like I can't drop it till I read it to the last letter. Some books are a big inspiration, especially fantasy books which often  inspire me in my designs.

Why did you choose your career / niche / topic / market?
I started making jewelry more from a need than in intention to make a career out of it. I was very young at the time, a student with limited funds and a desire for jewelry which I loved to wear. So I started making it on my own and soon discovered there are people who like what I make and that I really enjoy creating new and unique designs, so I dedicated more time to learning new techniques and improving my skills.
I'm passionate enough to build a brand around it, but the economic situation in the country isn't very favorable for starting a new business so I will wait a while to make it my only source of income.

look at me here!
What are your goals?
My goal is to get a formal education in goldsmithing which I would like to combine with  techniques I currently use in jewelry making.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself in a happy family surroundings making jewelry for a living.

Tell us about your shop:
How do you describe what you do and why are you doing what you do?
I enable different materials to tell their story and share their beauty with designs I envision when I take each stone, bead and shapeless wire in my hands and merge them into a whole.

Describe your ideal customer & the world they inhabit.
My ideal customer loves to wear unique handmade jewelry and appreciates the time and effort invested in it.

What do you want to be known for in your business?
I want to be known for my creative designs and good quality.

What is about your shop that is unique? What makes your shop different?
Every piece of jewelry that I make shows a little of my personality, my love for daydreaming, fantasy world, romance... Since every person is an individual and unlike any other, my jewelry expresses that special part of me that is mine alone and that's what makes it unique.

What event or need causes them to search for what you offer? Which problem do you solve?
Special occasion doesn't have to be the only motivation for a woman to feel and look special. Simple and unique piece of jewelry combined with every day outfit can easily make a woman smile and feel better for herself. Details make a difference from plain to interesting.

What is your message?
I want them to think " Yes, this is the detail I was looking for to make my outfit complete".

MicroGlaze Review

What is MicroGlaze?
Micro Glaze by Judikins is the easiest way to protect your ink and paper.
It not only protects it from water but also from air and oxidation. It can be used basically on every surface: paper, metal, wood and other materials and it protects ink, dyes, paints, acrylic, watercolours and ink jet printing. It also has a nice fluffy and soft wax consistence that is easy to work with.

Benefits:
  • Not visible
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Non-toxic
  • Acid free
How do I use MicroGlaze?
First your ink has to be fully dry. If not you could smudge it very easily and ruin your whole painting.
Now apply a little bit of MicroGlaze on your paper like you would colour in an area. A lot of people use their fingers for applying but I actually use an old brush. Just wash it very well to remove the wax and oil and your brush is fine again!
Apply a thin layer in the same direction and let it dry. Now your paper + ink are sealed!
If you want to give it even more protection, add a second or third layer and let it dry again. The glaze should be invisible now. If not, dab it with your brush/finger/tissue very carefully to set the rest of the glaze.
But don't use too much! It can make your paper make/look wet. Make sure the glaze is fully dry since the texture is very oily.

Where can I use it?
You can use it everywhere and for everything! For calligraphy, cards, mail art, for protecting injekt printed paper or watercolour.
Check out this site for more details on where you can use it.

Where can I get it and how much does it cost?
You can get it actually everywhere. On Etsy, Ebay, arts and crafts stores. I got my glaze from an Etsy shop. And it was about $8.

My Experience with it:
When I received this glaze the first time and opened it I was a little bit surprised. I was expecting something liquid. Like a glaze usually is! But it was a wax consistence that was very fluffy and soft.
I applied it on a watercolour painting I prepared and let it dry. After a while I did a super ultra waterproof check! I accidentally poured my tea all over my table where all my painting were...
And guess what! My picture that I coated with MicroGlaze was okay and in a perfect shape! The painting was literally swimming in my tea and the colours didn't bleed at all! Apart from my uncoated ones. They were all ruined.

I really like this glaze because it really protects the paper and ink from water. You can pour water on it and the protected surface works like a lotus effect. Really cool!
But in my experience it doesn't seem to give a complete protection from resin. I used Ice Resin and it ruined my paper every time. My paper got a lot of wet spots here and there. I couldn't figure out why but maybe someone has a solution!
The good thing is it works perfectly fine with Diamond Glaze!

Who would you recommend it to?
I can definitely recommend it to people who wants to protect their painting/ink from water. It works really well. This glaze will also last very looong since you always need just a little bit of it!
It contains paraffinic oils and waxes therefore it is not recommend for use by children.

I hope this review could help someone!
